How Bilby works

Patio and garden-path costs

Surface area with ordinary base work

Patios use a material-specific installed reference on net surface area. Paths use the native installed path model when supported, with a reference fallback. Shared geometry prevents overlapping routes and higher-priority surfaces from being counted as separate full areas.

Materials and level

Patio choices are concrete slabs, brick pavers, granite, sandstone, gravel and compacted gravel. Paths offer gravel, compacted gravel and concrete paving. Ordinary base preparation and installation belong to the surface estimate. A door-level patio may need incremental fill beyond its ordinary subbase. Retaining feasibility and structural edge support still need review.

Use the net area

Changing route length or width changes a path’s geometry. Material groups are priced from their net union rather than adding every overlapping rectangle.

Rates, minimums and raised fill

Patio low/expected/high rates per m² are SEK 850 / 1,250 / 1,900 for concrete slabs; 1,100 / 1,600 / 2,400 brick; 1,400 / 2,100 / 3,200 granite; 1,500 / 2,200 / 3,300 sandstone; 350 / 550 / 850 gravel; 400 / 650 / 1,000 compacted gravel. Each applies its material minimum. Native gravel paths use 350 / 550 / 800 with minimums 12,000 / 18,000 / 28,000; compacted gravel maps to that same native path model. References can distinguish the two. Door-level patio fill is added when sampled support exceeds 0.30 m, using area × max(0, height − 0.20 m).

Illustrative patio and path

A fictional 30 m² concrete-slab patio gives SEK 25,500 / 37,500 / 57,000 under its reference, above the minimums. At sampled support 0.50 m, incremental fill is 30 × (0.50 − 0.20) = 9 m³. The fill reference adds 4,950 / 7,650 / 12,600. A separate 30 m² native gravel path gives 12,000 / 18,000 / 28,000 because its minimums govern. These are separate scopes, not competing prices for one surface.

When the shape cannot be resolved

Invalid dimensions or failed geometry can leave a provisional reference alongside a warning; it is not measured area. Changing a colour alone does not establish another labour operation. Confirm paving thickness, loads, drainage and edge restraints with the contractor, especially for raised patios. Planner stairs along paths are separately priced.

Method and review

Reviewed 18 October 2026 against geometry ownership, installed path models and the national 2026 catalogue researched 16 September. Rates are modelled consumer allowances, not a universal paving tariff. Read your line’s method and actual quantities before comparing it with a quote.

The review date covers this explanation and its implemented method. Price and data dates are stated separately in the article.
