How Bilby works
Garage costs
A garage has several included components
Each placed garage has its own budget line. Cold construction combines shell and slab/base; insulated construction adds insulation and lining. The slab/base includes ordinary building groundworks on the native path. Detail rows explain the package and must not be counted again as a second foundation or groundworks charge.
Cold versus insulated
The shell is an erected, weather-tight timber garage with normal roof, facade, gutters, garage door, personnel door and modest windows. Insulation adds thermal lining; it does not provide a heating plant, electrical installation, plumbing, floor coating or permission for use as a dwelling. Service and interior fit-out is a separate allowance. Appearance choices such as facade/roof colours remain within broad specifications rather than generating a bespoke supplier quote.
Garage inputs
The footprint follows the placed building. Normal-soil scope is an assumption, not proof of site conditions.
| Input | Unit | Origin |
|---|---|---|
| Width × depth | m² | Measured planner dimensions |
| Cold / insulated | choice | User |
| Shorter side and aspect ratio | m / ratio | Derived geometry validity |
| Normal base conditions | scope | Model assumption |
| Fit-out and service price | SEK | Optional user/quote or allowance |
Native package and reference replacement
Native shell costs are fixed 20,000/35,000/50,000 plus 4,500/5,500/7,500 SEK/m². The slab/base is max(50,000/80,000/110,000, area × 1,800/2,600/3,500). Insulation adds 5,000/10,000/15,000 plus 1,200/2,000/3,000 SEK/m². The normal shell envelope is 15–100 m², shorter side at least 2.5 m and ratio at most 4:1. The reference fallback instead sums shell, a slab that excludes groundworks, and ordinary groundwork. Its expected rates are 6,000, 2,200 and 650 SEK/m² with separate minimums. The completion adapter adds groundwork only when the slab is that reference model; it does not add another ground allowance to the native slab/base. A missing old garage specification is provisionally treated as cold, with a warning.
Illustrative 30 m² garage
For a fictional 5 × 6 m native garage, shell is 155,000/200,000/275,000 SEK and slab/base 54,000/80,000/110,000. Cold total is 209,000/280,000/385,000. Insulation adds 41,000/70,000/105,000, giving 250,000/350,000/490,000 SEK. The different 30 m² reference cold package is 178,500/265,500/384,000 SEK. That is an alternative model, not a discount applied to the native result.
When a quotation is needed
Ranges describe specification and installation scenarios. Rock, deep improvement and exceptional drainage are excluded from the normal base. A larger or unusual shape may use a provisional reference and needs design review. Supplier inclusions and manual prices take precedence for their agreed scope. Moving a garage alone does not create a detailed ground investigation or reprice every earthwork.
Method and scope review
Reviewed 18 October 2026: garage structure/insulation V1, slab V2 and national references researched 16 September 2026. Byggmax ByMe’s garage packages provide product context, but Bilby’s separated installed shell/base is modelled. Confirm the quoted delivery scope directly with the selected garage supplier before replacing components.
The review date covers this explanation and its implemented method. Price and data dates are stated separately in the article.
