Build a house in Mark Municipality

Content reviewed

Not every Mark plot needs a queue place

Overview

Mark offers municipal plots in several localities. For some existing and older plots, the municipality says you can register interest directly without joining the plot queue. Read the terms for the actual plot. Then compare its detailed plan, water services and location before deciding which house fits.Municipal plots

Older plans still count

Planning & detailed development plans

Mark's map lets you find the adopted detailed plan and description for a property. The municipality notes that older town and building plans still count as detailed plans. Look up the exact plot even in a long-established area. A permit officer makes the final interpretation if an older rule is unclear.Detailed plans

A new home needs a permit

Building permits

Mark says a new residential house needs a building permit both inside and outside a detailed-plan area. Ask the permit team to review the drawings, map and site issues for your property before applying. Outside a planned area, an advance decision may be useful to check the site first. Wait for the formal start notice before building.Residential housesDetailed plans

Water & wastewater

Mark has a separate process for connecting a new property to public water and wastewater. First check whether the plot is in an existing service area or an area where the network is planned to expand. A planned network is not an existing connection. Ask the water team about the property and investigate private services if public connection is unavailable.Connect to public water and wastewater

The new-build map shows more than a boundary

Maps & documents

Mark's new-build map may show property boundaries, ground levels, planning rules, shoreline protection and public water pipes. It supports the site plan showing the house's position. The municipality also has simpler permit maps for other projects. Ask which map your new home needs and make sure it shows the correct property before drawing.Maps
