How Bilby works
Fibre connection costs
Project cost before a national allowance
The fibre budget row retains a stored project-specific connection cost when available. Otherwise an applicable row can use a national 20,000/28,000/50,000 SEK allowance. It is an initial connection budget, not the monthly broadband subscription, and fibre availability is not included in Bilby’s utilities suitability score.
Where the connection package ends
The allowance represents ordinary new or after-connected domestic fibre service. It excludes subscription charges and exceptional remote network extension. On-plot conduit and excavation may be included by an operator or budgeted separately. Read the offer before adding the shared trench and fibre conduit; the same route should not be bought twice. The model does not infer router, Wi-Fi coverage, speed tier or future recurring prices from a connection amount.
Inputs that actually set the amount
A visible fibre status and a priced connection are separate pieces of information.
| Input | Unit | Origin |
|---|---|---|
| Stored connection cost/range | SEK | Project analysis or local evidence |
| Accepted operator price | SEK | User-entered replacement |
| Included excavation/conduit | scope | Operator package |
| Missing price | status | National fixed allowance if applicable |
| On-plot conduit length | m | Separate editable distribution assumption |
A fixed reference, not a distance tariff
There is no metre formula in the national fibre-connection reference: its three fixed amounts represent broad ordinary procurement scenarios. The project-specific amount takes precedence; a user override replaces the relevant counted amount. If a legacy combined utility estimate owns the core services, fibre details do not add another copy until that package is reconciled. Editing the 25 m on-plot distribution assumption changes the conduit/trench estimate, not this fixed connection reference.
Illustrative operator quote
A fictional project with no fibre quote carries 20,000/28,000/50,000 SEK. If the owner accepts and records a scoped 32,000 SEK offer, that price replaces the connection allowance; it is not added to the expected 28,000. If the 32,000 includes on-plot conduit, mark that scope included before counting a separate conduit estimate. Recurring subscription costs still remain outside this one-time project total.
Availability and actual offers
Low/high is a broad allowance, not an assurance of service. A network may require enough subscribers, extra extension or a different installation season. Missing price data is not a zero-cost connection; an unavailable service should not be treated as confirmed simply because a budget reserve exists. Confirm the installation boundary, connection equipment, quote validity and recurring agreement with the operator.
Operator evidence and review date
Code reviewed 18 October 2026; national reference researched 16 September 2026. Borlänge Energi’s fibre charges are a local operator anchor, not a nationwide tariff. Bilby’s expected 28,000 and wider scenarios are its own planning allowance; no current offer for a particular plot is implied.
The review date covers this explanation and its implemented method. Price and data dates are stated separately in the article.
